Microarray Printing
Microarray printing is the precise deposition of dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of ultra-small droplets onto a surface. Common targets (substrates) include nitrocellulose membranes, microtiter plate (MTP) wells, coated glass slides, and various plastic or special materials. The droplets are placed in upfront defined patterns, with requested spot size, pitch in between the droplets, and volume corresponding to the specific application. Lately, microarrays have become widely used in diagnostics and life science research, particularly for biomarker detection, DNA, protein and glycoprotein analysis. Dispensed volume typically ranges from picoliters to low microliters. This small volume enables efficient use of the samples and also high density of the assay.
Although many laboratories outsource microarray production to commercial providers, in-house manufacturing might be a cost-effective and flexible option, even for small-scale microarray producers, and enables them to grow their future development and production.
